3 Low Voltage Soft Starters and Their Uses

1st May 2013 | Posted by Charlotte Miskell

Low Voltage Soft Starters can help you help minimise your costs by reducing the overall system power requirements. This can help to reduce wear and tear on your systems, meaning that you can save money on repairs. These soft starters are easily integrated to increase your productivity and reduce downtime. Here we will look at three Low Voltage Soft Starters and what they can offer.

SMC-50 Solid-State Soft Starters

These soft starters are designed to offer flexibility and can help maximise the efficiency of motor starts and stops. The SMC-50 Soft Starter can be connected to multiple networks, such as Device Net™, EtherNet/IP™, Modbus, and Profibus, through the 20-COMM DPI communication modules. As well as having network integration capabilities the SMC-50 Soft Starter can support applications such as pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors and high inertia loads.

SMC Flex Low Voltage Soft Starters

The SMC Flex Low Voltage Soft Starter features seven standard start modes and contains a built in electronic motor overload protection. This soft starter can be easily customized and is pre-engineered for quick factory lead times, as well as offering inherent diagnostics which can reduce downtime. The SMC Flex Low Voltage motor starters can support conveyors, compressors, fans, pumps and bandsaws.

SMC-3 Soft Starters

The SMC-3 Soft Starter is a sold-state motor which is designed to operate 3-phase motors. It is compact, simple to use and contains built in SCR bypass contactor on all three phases. This means that the SMC-3 Soft Starter has a smaller footprint than the other soft starters on the market. It operates soft start, soft stop, current limit start and kick start and like the SMC Flex Low Voltage Soft Starters is fully customizable. As well as a lower installed cost, the SMC-3 Soft Starter has reduced voltage and line disturbances and can be used with conveyors, compressors, fans, pumps and bandsaws.
