Machine Guarding Design

Guarding for machines is more than just a fabrication, it is a design solution to prevent access to dangerous moving parts. Invariably all guarding is bespoke in its need for fitting to existing machines.

Proplas International Ltd. design and installation engineers have many years of experience in the design and fabrication of guard systems to produce a complete solution for increased machine safety. We know what is required and can offer a solution that covers everything from risk analysis, dimensioning and layout proposals to turnkey installation.

Our fundamental understanding and integration of the EN standards requirements into our products and our incredibly quick turnaround sets us aside from the competition. All guarding is designed and engineered in accordance with the latest EN standards including:

  • BS EN 953:1997+A1:2009 Safety of Machinery - Guards - General requirements for the design and construction of fixed and movable guards.
  • BS EN ISO 13857:2008 Safety of Machinery - Safety distances to prevent hazard zones being reached by upper and lower limbs.
  • BS EN 349:1993 +A1:2008 Safety of Machinery - Minimum gaps to avoid crushing of parts of the human body.

Our considerable experience of guard manufacture has led to many satisfied clients in all industries. Often the largest challenge when designing a guarding system is effectively communicating the look, feel and operational effects of the proposed solution. Whilst as a matter of course, a functional design specification is supplied with every proposed solution, we also have the capability of offering full 3D drawings and renderings of complex guard systems. Another example of our commitment to “Right first time” approach to customer service. We never forget that the operator is at the centre of our system, not just the machine.

We also refer to ‘Type C’ standards where available for specific types of machinery.
Following these standards allows us to provide best practice solutions to guarding applications therefore providing protection to persons whilst maintaining machine functionality and productivity.

Design Services

Proplas International Ltd. offer a full in house CAD design service for machinery guarding applications. From an initial site survey to review and specify guarding requirements with the client and their operators, we can provide both 2D and 3D visualisations to demonstrate how the guarding will interact with the user and machine. This enables design changes and modifications to be made during the early stages ensuring that all guarding meets client needs, operator requirements and meets the relevant standards prior to manufacture.
